The Jakarta Library and Archival Agency (Dispusip) has provided archive restoration and digitization services for flood-affected residents in 28 urban villages throughout Jakarta from March 10 - 30 April.

The service operation starts at 9 AM to 3 PM in urban village offices and child-friendly public spaces (RPTRA) under 3M health protocols in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 transmission.

Jakarta Dispusip Head Wahyu Haryadi expressed it aimed to help repair family archives such as ID cards, family cards, birth certificates, sale and purchase certificates, diplomas, employee decree, pension decree, passport, vehicle ownership document (BPKB), certificates, and others documents.

"This is one of our duties and obligations as a regional archival institution that is saving archives in regional apparatus and archives in society," he expressed, Thursday (3/11).

He explained that restoration was basically repair to prevent further damage, instead of restoring the archive state as before.

"It is done from how bad the damage and then we analyze again the possibility of repair," he explained.

According to him, archivists would digitize the restored family archives. Digitalization in this matter is an effort to transfer media or a technique to move the contents or information of printed, written or drawn archives into digital format without reducing the contents of the original archive.

"After being restored, we then continue to digitalization. So the owner will get a CD for backup," he uttered.

Archives Management Division Acting Head Fitri Aulia added the service i s limited to three days in each urban village.

"The process is done on the same day. After three days, if residents who want to use our services, you can come to the nearest Library and Archival Sub-agency office," he stated.

She went on to say that archivists were also giving residents tips on how to save family archives.

"Storing these files and documents must also be careful, prioritizing in a safe place or place them to a safer place like on the top floor of the house. Put it in an archive folder thus it is neat, and digitize it with a scanner so you have the backup," he stated.
